Before You Play Offshore: What You Are Accepting
If you are outside the seven legal states, offshore sites are the only way to play live dealer blackjack. Before you deposit, understand what is different about them.
The Legal Gray Area
Federal law does not clearly prohibit an individual from placing a bet at an offshore casino. What federal law targets is the operators and the payment processors. Several states, however, have statutes that address the player side, and the enforcement picture varies. Nobody can promise you that playing offshore is legal where you live, and this page does not.
No Regulator Means No Recourse

Casinos weight games by how much they contribute toward wagering requirements. Slots typically count 100 percent. Live dealer blackjack typically counts between zero and 10 percent, and many operators exclude it from bonus play entirely.

What the Math Actually Costs You
Take a $1,000 bonus with a 25x wagering requirement. That is $25,000 of cumulative wagering to clear.
At 100 percent contribution on slots, you wager $25,000 and you are done.
At 10 percent contribution on live blackjack, you need $250,000 of live wagering to clear the same bonus. At an average bet of $25 per hand and roughly 70 hands per hour, that works out to about 142 hours at the table. For one bonus. It is not viable, and it is not close.
At zero percent contribution, no amount of live play clears anything.

A separate trap catches players who do get bonus funds to the live tables. Most operators cap the maximum bet while a bonus is active, commonly at $10 per hand. Exceeding that cap can void the entire bonus and any winnings from it. If you are playing through a bonus at a live table with a $25 minimum, you may be in violation from the first hand. Check the max bet clause, not just the contribution rate.
The Right Approach
Treat live dealer blackjack as cash-balance play, not bonus play. If you want a welcome bonus, clear the wagering on high-return slots first, then move your cleared cash balance to the live tables, where contribution rules no longer apply. Most operators keep bonus funds and cash funds in separate buckets, so once the bonus converts to withdrawable cash, you can play live without restriction.

What Is Live Dealer Blackjack?
How the Studio and Stream Work
A live dealer table is a physical table in a licensed studio, staffed by a trained dealer and covered by several cameras. One camera holds a wide shot, another covers the shoe and the cards, and a third often covers the dealer. Optical character recognition reads each card as it comes out of the shoe and pushes that data to your interface, so your screen updates the moment the card lands. Some studios use chipped cards rather than optical reading, achieving the same result.
You place bets with virtual chips during a timed betting window. When it closes, the dealer deals. Your decisions are transmitted back to the studio and displayed for the dealer. Payouts are calculated by software and settled automatically.
The dealer cannot see you. There is no camera on your end, and other players cannot see you either. The only thing anyone else at the table sees is your username and your bets.
Where the Randomness Comes From
In RNG blackjack, a random number generator determines the cards. In live blackjack, physical cards from a physical shoe determine the cards. You can watch the shuffle, watch the cut card go in, and watch the shoe get changed. Nothing is hidden.

Who Live Dealer Suits
Live blackjack suits players who want the atmosphere of a casino table and are willing to accept a timed decision window, a slower pace and slightly worse rules to get it. The slower pace is worth noting as a genuine benefit: at 70 to 100 hands per hour instead of 500, you put far less money through the house edge per hour, and the structure is less compulsive.
It does not suit players trying to clear a bonus at most sites, players who want to practice for free, players who want to control their own pace, or players optimizing purely for return to player. All of those are better served by RNG real money blackjack.
How to Play Live Dealer Blackjack
The game itself is standard blackjack. If you have played at a physical table, nothing here will surprise you. What follows is a full round from the player’s side.
The Objective
Beat the dealer’s hand without exceeding 21. Cards two through ten are worth face value, face cards are worth ten, and an ace is worth one or eleven, whichever helps your hand. A two-card total of 21 is a blackjack, or natural, and normally pays 3:2.
A Round, Step by Step
- Betting window opens. Select a chip value and click the betting circle. You have a limited window, usually 12 to 20 seconds, and late bets do not register.
- Side bets, if you want them. Perfect Pairs, 21+3, Any Pair, Hot 3 and Bust It are placed now, alongside your main bet, in separate circles.
- Betting closes. The dealer announces no more bets. Nothing you do after this affects the round until cards are dealt.
- The deal. Each seated player receives one card face up, then the dealer takes one face up, then each player receives a second card face up and the dealer takes a second card face down. Dealing starts to the dealer’s left.
- Blackjack check. If the dealer shows an ace, insurance is offered. If you have a two-card 21 and the dealer does not, you are paid immediately at 3:2.
- Your decisions. Hit for another card, stand to keep your total, double down to double your bet and receive exactly one more card, split a matching pair into two hands with a second equal bet, or surrender where offered to forfeit half your bet and end the hand. You have about 20 seconds. If the timer expires, the software stands your hand automatically.
- The dealer plays. The face-down card is revealed. The dealer must hit on 16 or less and stand on 17 or more. Whether the dealer hits or stands on a soft 17 depends on the table rules and matters to your edge.
- Settlement. If you are closer to 21 than the dealer, or the dealer busts, you win even money. Equal totals push and your bet is returned. If you bust, you lose immediately regardless of what the dealer does afterward.
Splitting and Doubling Details
Splitting aces almost always limits you to one card per hand, and a resulting 21 counts as a normal 21 rather than a blackjack. Some tables allow resplitting if you draw another matching pair, and some allow doubling after a split, which is worth about 0.14 percent to the player. Both are worth checking in the table rules before you sit.
Multi-Hand Play
Some live tables let you occupy more than one seat and play multiple hands in the same round. This does not change your expected value per hand, but it increases how much money you have in action per round and therefore your variance. It also gives you less time to think, since you have the same 20-second window to decide on every hand.
Live Blackjack Rules Glossary
These terms appear in table rules and lobby descriptions. Knowing them before you sit down saves money.
- Bet Behind: Wagering on a seated player’s hand when the table is full. You take their result with no decision-making control.
- Double Any 2: You may double down on any two-card total, the more player-friendly rule.
- Double 9-11: Doubling is restricted to totals of 9, 10 or 11 only, which costs you a small amount of edge.
- DAS: Double After Split is permitted. Worth roughly 0.14 percent to the player.
- Hit Split Aces: Whether you may take more than one card after splitting aces. Most tables allow only one.
- Resplit: Splitting again after drawing another matching pair.
- S17: The dealer stands on soft 17. Better for you.
- H17: The dealer hits soft 17. Costs you about 0.2 percent.
- Peek: The dealer checks for blackjack before players act, so you lose only your original bet when the dealer has a natural.
- ENHC: European No Hole Card. The dealer takes no second card until players have acted, so you can lose split and double bets to a dealer blackjack. Costs you roughly 0.11 percent.
- Surrender: Forfeit half your bet and end the hand. Late surrender is worth about 0.08 percent; early surrender is worth considerably more.
- Charlie: An automatic win at a set number of cards without busting, typically five, seven or ten cards. Rare but always in your favor.
- Insurance: A side bet offered when the dealer shows an ace, paying 2:1 if the dealer has blackjack. It is a losing bet in nearly every situation.
- Push: A tie. Your bet is returned.
- Shoe: The physical container holding the decks. Most live tables use eight.
- Cut card: The marker placed in the shoe that signals a reshuffle. Its depth determines penetration.
- Penetration: How far into the shoe the dealer goes before reshuffling. Usually about 50 percent at live tables.
How to Start Playing
1. Confirm Your State and Age
Check whether you are in one of the seven regulated states. Regulated sites require you to be 21. Most offshore sites accept players at 18, but that does not override your own state’s laws.

2. Register and Verify
Regulated sites verify identity at signup using your Social Security number, date of birth and address. This is a legal requirement, not an inconvenience. Offshore sites usually let you register faster but will verify before your first withdrawal, so upload documents early rather than when you are trying to cash out.
3. Deposit
Choose a method you can also withdraw to, which avoids problems later. Crypto is fastest offshore. Debit card is usually fastest at regulated sites.

4. Find the Right Table
Filter the live lobby to blackjack, then check minimums before entering. Wild Casino and DraftKings display limits and open seats in the lobby; most sites make you open the table. Match the minimum to your bankroll, not to the table that looks busiest. A useful rule is to sit with at least 40 times the table minimum.
5. Take a Seat or Bet Behind

6. Place Your Bet

7. Leaving a Table
You can leave at any time between hands using the exit button beside your seat, usually marked with an X. You are never locked into a table or a session.
Etiquette
Do not criticize other players’ decisions in chat, even when they cost you a card. Do not ask the dealer for advice, since they cannot give it. Tipping is optional and available through the interface at most tables.

- Sitting at a table with a minimum too high for your bankroll
- Taking insurance, which is a losing bet in almost every situation
- Playing a 6:5 table without noticing the payout
- Trying to clear a bonus at the live tables

The Seven Legal States
Regulated live dealer blackjack is available in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, West Virginia, Connecticut, Delaware and Rhode Island. Maine became the eighth state to legalize online casino gaming in January 2026 through legislation supporting the Wabanaki Nations, but the market has not launched and no operators are live yet.

Live Blackjack Formats Explained
Classic Live Blackjack
Seven seats, eight decks, dealer stands on soft 17 at most tables, blackjack pays 3:2. This is the baseline and where most players should start. Bet Behind is usually available when seats are full.
Infinite Blackjack
An Evolution format available at regulated sites. One shared hand is dealt to unlimited players, each of whom makes their own decisions from that starting hand. There is never a wait for a seat. Side bets are extensive, and because every player begins from the same two cards, correct basic strategy matters more visibly than usual.
Early Payout Blackjack
A Visionary iGaming exclusive, so offshore only. At any point during the hand you can press a Yes Pay button to cash out for a value calculated from the hand’s current mathematical expectation. That lets you lock in a win on a strong hand or cut a loss on a bad one without playing it out.
RTP runs about 99.5 percent. The strategic wrinkle is that the offered payout is mathematically fair, so cashing out is neither systematically good nor bad. It changes your variance, not your expected value.

- Surrender. Late surrender is worth roughly 0.08 percent. Early surrender, available on some Visionary tables, is worth considerably more.
- Peek versus no hole card. ENHC tables cost you roughly 0.11 percent because you can lose doubled and split bets to a dealer blackjack.
- Charlie rules. A five, seven or ten card Charlie is always in your favor, though it triggers rarely.
Side Bets and What They Cost You
Side bets are the highest-margin bets on the table. They exist because they are profitable for the casino, and none of them is a good long-term wager. If you play them, keep the stakes small relative to your main bet.

Basic Strategy at Live Tables
Basic strategy charts work identically at live tables and RNG tables, because the underlying math is the same. The only difference is that you have about 20 seconds to act, so you need the decision ready rather than looked up.
Use a chart matched to the table rules you are actually playing. An eight-deck S17 chart is wrong at an H17 table, and standard basic strategy is wrong at Spanish 21 or Free Bet Blackjack, both of which need their own charts. Getting the wrong chart costs more than most side bets.
Is Live Dealer Blackjack Rigged?
No. Regulated operators are licensed by state gaming boards and independently audited, and the physical cards are dealt on camera with the shuffle and cut card visible. The structural argument matters more than any assurance. Live blackjack is dealt in front of multiple players who can record their screens. This is the question most guides skip, and it has a real answer. If you lose connection during the betting window before your bet is confirmed, the bet does not register and nothing happens.
